For the Love of Film Blogathon to Return in February

OFCS member and Ferdy on Films editor Marilyn Ferdinand has announced her site will be co-hosting the second annual "For the Love of Film" blogathon.

Earlier this year, the original blogathon raised funds to restore two short films from the recently discovered cache silent-era movies in the New Zealand Archive. This new addition of the blogathon, "For the Love of Film (Noir)," will raise funds for the Film Noir Foundation to use in restoring Cy Endfield's 1950 drama The Sound of Fury (aka Try and Get Me).

All film bloggers are invited to post relevant posts February 14-21. More information can be found here.

New Novel from Jonathan Richards

OFCS member Jonathan Richards has published his latest novel, Nick & Jake, written with his brother Tad Richards. Nick & Jake combines famous literary characters and infamous historical figures in a comic adventure set during the height of the Red Scare.

In addition to the novel, the Richards have crafted their story into an audio version starring Alan Arkin, Tom Conti, and Ali MacGraw, with appearances by Ambassador Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame Wilson, Pat Oliphant, and Joan Darling, and with original music by Dave Grusin. In an inventive twist on the audiobook, listeners can also follow the story in podcast form as a radio drama.

More information on Nick & Jake can be found here.

The Bootleg Files Reaches Milestone

The Bootleg Files, the weekly column from Film Threat contributing editor and OFCS member Phil Hall, has reached its 350th edition, making it the internet's longest-running weekly film history column.

The column discusses productions whose troubled histories have limited their availability to unauthorized releases. Appearing every Friday since its creation in 2003, Hall's series has studied the full range of movie history, from 1894 Edison-produced experiments to modern YouTube mash-ups.

The landmark 350th edition covers Joseph Losey’s rarely seen 1951 remake of Fritz Lang's M and can be read here.

Betty Jo Tucker Featured in Upcoming Anthology

ReelTalk Movie Reviews editor and OFCS member Betty Jo Tucker will have her essay "Weird and Wonderful Cinema" included in V. Ulea's upcoming anthology Quantum Genre on the Planet of the Arts, to be released in e-book format by the publishers of Paraphilia Magazine.

For the anthology, a collection of short stories, flash fiction, book interpretations, and other works where "the technique [is] unlike the one we observe in mainstream literature," Betty Jo's article has been selected as the only entry covering film. She describes her essay:

In keeping with the Quantum Genre concept, "Weird and Wonderful Cinema" describes a meeting of my Current Self, Past Self and Future Self as we revise film reviews for three movies -- The Fountain, Mulholland Drive, and Sliding Doors -- to include new Quantum Works perspectives.

For more information on Quantum Genre in the Planet of Arts or to order, visit Paraphilia Magazine's website.
